I get my annual flu shot because my 5 year old niece, Alana, died from the flu in 2003. She was perfectly healthy but not vaccinated. Her doctors did not ever suggest she (or either of her brothers) get a flu shot at any point in her short life, even when they fell in the recommended guideline at the time. I want to protect myself, family and community so no one has to experience the tragedy of a family member dying from a vaccine-preventable disease.
